John Eckstrom, a seventh grade student at Kane Area Middle School, has completed the Genre Challenge. John read books from eight different genres this year to complete the challenge. His favorite book was Found by Margaret Peterson Haddix.
Five students at the middle school submitted a video to the Dream It, Do It manufacturing contest. The manufacturer was D'Angelo's Custom Built (they are awesome!!). Kane students placed 2nd out of 12 schools.

No Alexis Port is the first seventh grade student to complete the Kane Area Middle School Genre Challenge. Alexis read one book from each of the following genres to complete the challenge: realistic fiction, science fiction, fantasy, biography, sports fiction, thriller, historical fiction, and adventure. Students in sixth grade need to read six books from various genres, students in seventh need to read eight, and students in eighth grade need to read ten. Alexis is currently engrossed in The Selection series by Kiera Cass. Written and submitted by 7th and 8th Grade Reading Teacher, Mrs. K. Johnson The Kane Area Middle School Accelerated Reader winners have been chosen. Students who earned the most points in each grade include Satene Banks (grade 6, 52 points), Branden Bentley (grade 7, 49 points), and Brooke Ginkel (grade 8, 23 points). Students who were drawn as basket winners include Dawson Snyder (grade 6), Karli Gustafson (grade 7), and Madi Stahli (grade 8). The winner of the IU9 art contest will have their artwork displayed in the Seneca highlands IU9 building.
