Adrionna Peffer has completed the Genre Challenge! Adri is in 6th grade and her favorite book was The Saturday Boy, which is about a boy who faces many life challenges. She read six books from six different genres and scored at least a 70% on her AR quizzes. Adri was committed to completing this reading challenge and we are so proud of her for reaching her goal! Kane vs. Johnsonburg 8th grade game: Today the 8th grade basketball team is going against the Johnsonburg Rams. The 8th grade team couches name is John Bedford. This game was very intense and there were many fouls. The ending score for this game was Kane 23 and Johnsonburg 43. With Aaron Mishic scoring a total of 9 points, which was the most scored on the team. 7th grade game: Today the 7th grade basketball team also went against the Johnsonburg Rams. The 7th grade couches name is Nathan Smith. During the game there we also a lot of fouls and everyone played very aggressively. The final score for this game was Kane 13 and Johnsonburg 19. With Brock Wensel and William Costanzo having a total of 4 points, which was the most scored throughout the game. Good job to all the participants! Article and Photos By, Sarah Stitt 7th grade students in ELA presented their Watsons Go to Birmingham, 1963 projects. Over the course of the month, students learned about the civil rights movement, segregation, discrimination, the 1963 Baptist Church Street Bombing in Birmingham, and the heroes that were willing to speak up and demand change while reading the novel. The Kane Area Middle School Student Council, with the help of CNB, is donating a few bags of dog and cat food along with $150 to the McKean County SPCA. Sienna Conklin, seventh grade Student Council member, was shown a Facebook post by her mom. The post was made by CNB employee Nia Brown who was asking for SPCA donations that were in high need including dog and cat food. Several CNB employees will be making a trip to the SPCA to deliver the donations on Monday. The council saw this as an opportunity to help out the community. It's nice to be a part of the positive aspects of social media. Student Council raises money through various school events and activities. The council hopes to make their own trip to the SPCA with more donations later this year. Lena Perris sees the party as an easy way to get her “things to accomplish before I turn 14” list. When she gets dared to kiss the adorable Mark torelli, she can’t say no. it’s better than licking the toilet. But the next day when Lena, a soul collector, gets a new assignment, things go terribly wrong. Her and Mark, who turns out to be a supernatural matchmaker, have switched powers. So instead of collecting a soul she has set up a relationship. And Mark has death at his fingerprints. “ A great read and a creative turn of events. Definitely wouldn’t pass it up.” -Satene Banks Members of NJHS along with advisor, Mr. Chamberlain, raised over $800 to donate to the Kane Community Center to buy gifts for students at Christmas. The money was raised by various activities throughout the year, and the NJHS Halloween dance.
