The Kane Middle School Starbooks Reader took second place at the Spring Reading Competition held at Fretz Middle School on March 20. Seven middle school teams competed in the competition. Oswayo Valley took 1st place and third place went to Port Allegany. Kane's team of 14 read from a list of 30 books with each kid reading at least three books on the list. The top reader for the team and a team captain, Arianna Hale, read 10 of the 30 books followed by Satene Banks and Jon Crowley who both read 6 of the 30 books. The second team captain was 8th grader, Lily Williams.

The Kane Area Middle School Accelerated Readers for February have been selected. Students who earned the most points include Arianna Hale (6th grade, 31 points), Caliann Kribbs (7th grade, 108 points), and Nathan Griswold (8th grade, 29 points). Students who were chosen to win AR baskets include Kane Scharba (6th grade), Ben Walter (7th grade), and Abby Deane (8th grade).
