This year’s Science Olympiad teams from both the middle school and high school, competed with fifteen other schools of northwestern Pennsylvania at the Penn State Behrend in Erie on March 7th. The teams have been practicing at their schools since early January. Preparing to compete consisted of; after school practices, and during KANE period, and some at home preparation. Their hard work has paid off! The team did very well and brought home ten medals!
Aldin Payne and Nick Marconi got first place in Reach for the Stars, an event to do with astronomy. Carter Carlisle and Wyatt Jenson took first place in Optics, an event on lasers. Avery Bechakas and Samantha Hulings- second place in Disease Detectives, which is an event about diseases. Nick Marconi, Carter Carlisle, and Wyatt Jensen took second place in Experimental Design. Joshua Greville and Justin Mishic took second place in Hovercraft. A machine that had steps for the travel of a ball was built by Nick Marconi and Jonathan Mishic won a second place metal. Aldin Payne and Nick Marconi won third place in a meteorology event Mackenzie Blankenship and Aldin Payne won fourth place in Dynamic Planet, and event that focuses on the geographic features of the Earth Justin Mishic and Joshua Greville showed their map skills and acquired fourth place in Road Scholar. Aldin Payne and Carter Carlisle got fourth place in Tower, they built a tower that held over 17kgs. The students in both schools did an amazing job at the competition. Congratulations to them!
