This week’s picture is of a WW2 Japanese submarine on Field St. in the year 1943. This sub known as the HA-19 was one of five midget submarines that were supposed to attack the ships by water at Pearl Harbor. The HA-19 however was captured before it could attack the harbor. After the attack the HA-19 was brought ashore and was then decided to be put on a War bond tour. Crossing many states and the District of Columbia this sub made its way up to Pennsylvania. The day before coming to Kane the sub made its way over to Bradford, but the next day due to the hills the HA-19 was 20 minutes late appearing in Kane. The original time was set for 10:30 a.m., but did not arrive until 10:50 and was gone by 11:00 a.m. To see the submarine children had to pay 25 cents and Adults $1.00. That day a total amount of $1,655.25 was made to see it. After the tour ended the HA-19 was taken to George H.W. Bush Pacific Coast War Memorial in Fredericksburg, Texas where it still remains today.
